The suburbs of New York are blessed with areas having rich history and heritage. One of them is of course the multi-cultural and multi-ethnic county of The Bronx. Located in the north of the metropolis of New York, the Bronx was linked with the Manhattan area in 1904 and after that it has seen a quick development both in terms of economy and population.
Many of us may not aware that it was in1898, when the Bronx was legally made a borough of Greater New York. This area is considered as a famous manufacturing county and in the beginning of the 20th century there were around 5,000 workers working in number of piano factories located at Bronx.This/tag helps explain it more.
I have always cherished the mix culture of the borough of Bronx and the reason behind this diversity is that, this place has accepted influence from many different communities at different times. Like all other areas of United States, the Native American Indians lived in that part as well. It was in the middle of the seventeenth century when these inhabitants were moved by the early British and Dutch settlers.
This trend was continued and the settlers keep coming in the borough of Bronx from different areas of European continent. These movers mostly belonged from Italy, Germany, France and Ireland. A huge number of Jews were also shifted in this county during that phase. The time had seen a change immediately after the World War II as both the Hispanics and Africans came and settled at Bronx in big numbers. Even these days, you can witness the influence of Caribbean, Puerto Rico and Jamaica every where at The Bronx county.
Studies have also revealed that the Jewish had constituted a major part of the population of this county and you can observe many synagogues even today in different parts of the Bronx. Before the start of World War II, there were around 600,000 Jews in The Bronx. However, with the passage of time, their number decreased and as per an estimate only 45,000 Jews have remained in this area till the year 2002.
Today, the Bronx exhibits a picture of a modern area, which is equipped with all the advanced amenities.
